Pedagogy, noun (plural pedagogies)
Pronunciation: /ˈpɛdəgɒdʒi, -gɒgi/
- the profession, science, or theory of teaching.
- the method and practice of teaching, especially as an academic subject or theoretical concept
To me pedagogy is about more than just teaching itself- it is the swirling nexus of beliefs surrounding teaching including stances on technology in the classroom, openness to diversity, and much more. These beliefs are mutable and evolve over time through interactions with students, parents, educators, and administrators.
I am currently between stages in the life cycle of the professional academic. Caught between the graduate student caterpillar and the teacher butterfly I’m working to put my pedagogical thoughts in writing and will be collecting them here. I was lucky enough to be able to take a graduate class in composition theories and pedagogies which helped me develop a sound theoretical framework for handling English composition in the college classroom. Other pages are the codified result of excellent questions posed to me by professors, colleagues, and interviewers.
